The best tarpaulin fabric is not simply the heaviest option. Buyers need to match the construction, coating and finished specification to the load, exposure and handling conditions of the end product.
This guide explains the information a supplier needs before recommending a material direction for an industrial cover or tarpaulin project.
1. Start with the Protected Product
Describe what the tarpaulin or cover will protect and how it will be used.

Ask the supplier to confirm:
- construction or denier reference
- finished weight
- usable width
- color
- expected handling and folding
- strength or tear test requirements
3. Match the Coating to the Requirement
PU, PA, silver and other relevant coating directions serve different purposes. The coating should be selected around waterproofing, surface feel, appearance, light management and the intended environment.
If you already have a reference sample, send it together with the current specification. This gives the supplier a clearer basis for comparison than a product name alone.
4. Specify Performance as a Testable Requirement
Terms such as waterproof, UV resistant and heavy duty can mean different things to different buyers. Replace broad labels with a target and test method whenever possible.
Useful requirements may include:
- waterproof target and test method
- tensile or tear requirement
- UV-resistance requirement
- abrasion or repeated-folding requirement
- restricted-substance or fluorine-free requirement
- flame-retardant standard, only when the project requires it
Certification or test availability must be confirmed for the selected material and order. Do not assume that one report covers every construction, coating or finished product.
5. Check Finished-Product Details
For a completed tarpaulin or protective cover, fabric is only part of the specification. Buyers may also need to define dimensions, seams, hems, fastening points, eyelets, reinforcement, labels, packing and acceptable tolerances.
MOQ varies by size, material and order quantity for finished products.
For fabric supply, typical MOQ is 1,000–3,000 meters, subject to specification and coating requirements.
6. Approve the Specification Before Bulk Production
A practical approval sequence is:
- Share the end use and target specification.
- Review the proposed material direction.
- Confirm construction, coating, width, color and required tests.
- Review a sample against the agreed requirements.
- Use the approved specification as the reference for bulk supply.
